A Garden of Excellence: Elijah's Garden Receives Prestigious Community Recognition

We are thrilled to announce that Elijah's Garden has been honored with the prestigious "Excellence in Gardening" award from the Mundelein Beautification Committee! This recognition celebrates not only the beauty and care evident in our community garden but also its meaningful impact on our neighbors and local food security.

The award reflects the tireless dedication of our garden champions, Virginia Biegel and Rita Tiehen Salit, whose leadership and vision have made this space possible. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many devoted students who have spent countless hours this summer nurturing seedlings, tending plants, and harvesting fresh produce with love and care.

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is knowing that every tomato, pepper, and leafy green grown in Elijah's Garden serves a greater purpose. Throughout the growing season, our garden provides fresh, organic produce to families in need through our partnership with the Santa Maria del Popolo Food Pantry in Mundelein, transforming soil and seeds into nourishment and hope for our community.

This award from the Mundelein Beautification Committee—established in November 2021 to enhance and protect Mundelein's scenic environment and quality of life—recognizes gardens that not only beautify our neighborhoods but also strengthen the bonds that make Mundelein a special place to call home.
