Give Crypto Currency

We are excited to announce new ways to support our school. We can now accept online donations of crypto currencies, donor advised funds and stocks – all of which are tax-smart ways to support our mission!

We are partnering with the Giving Block to securely processes cryptocurrency on our behalf. Carmel Catholic does not hold cryptocurrency as a part of its investment portfolio. The Giving Block converts the crypto currency, and the donation is given to Carmel Catholic in the form USD.

A: Donating crypto is a highly tax-efficient form of giving. Crypto is treated as a property by the IRS for tax purposes, meaning that donors typically don’t have to pay capital gains taxes—which can be as high as 37%—on their donated cryptocurrency. Donors can also write-off the donation as a charitable contribution. The result is often significant tax savings.
A: Yes. It is lawful for a nonprofit to accept a donation in the form of a cryptocurrency. On March 2014, the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) ruled that Bitcoin is treated as property for tax purposes (IRS Notice 2014-21).
