Carmel Catholic High School Packs 200,000+ Meals for Global Hunger Relief

Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein proudly announces the successful completion of its annual "Corsairs Care" event held on Friday, May 9, during which students, faculty, staff, and volunteers collectively packed 209,952 meals in partnership with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) which is equivalent of feeding 575 hungry children for an entire year which is 3000 more than we did last year!. This monumental effort will provide life-sustaining nourishment to children suffering from hunger around the world.

The school's gymnasium and student lounge were transformed into a vibrant mobile packing facility, bustling with the energy of hundreds of volunteers meticulously measuring, sealing, and boxing nutrient-rich meals. This year's initiative marks a significant achievement in Carmel Catholic's ongoing commitment to service and global justice, a cornerstone of its mission for over 46 years through the "Corsairs Care" program.

"Our collaboration with Feed My Starving Children is a powerful embodiment of our Catholic identity and the charisms inherited from our founders, the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) and the Order of Carmelites," said Dr. Brad Bonham, President of Carmel Catholic High School. "To witness our entire school community come together with such enthusiasm and dedication to serve those in greatest need is truly inspiring. Packing over 200,000 meals means providing hope and sustenance to countless children, and it reinforces the profound impact we can make when we work together for a common, compassionate cause."

The packed meals, designed to provide comprehensive nutrition, will be distributed by FMSC to communities facing severe food insecurity. Beyond the immediate impact of feeding the hungry, the "Corsairs Care" event also provides an invaluable educational experience for Carmel Catholic students, fostering a deeper understanding of global issues and the importance of active citizenship.

In addition to supporting Feed My Starving Children, proceeds from this year's "Corsairs Care" event will also contribute to improvements within the Carmel Catholic community, including the development of the new Corsair Student Center.

Carmel Catholic High School remains steadfast in its dedication to nurturing servant-leaders who are prepared to make a positive difference in the world. The "Corsairs Care" event exemplifies this commitment, demonstrating the power of faith, community, and collective action in addressing critical global challenges.
