Choir Students Visit NYC

Thirty-five members of the Carmel Catholic choir program along with four teachers traveled to New York City over spring break for an educational and fun performing trip. The group saw the Broadway musicals Wicked and Hadestown. The morning after they saw Hadestown they attended a private workshop with the dance captain and assistant musical director of the show. The pair taught them a song and a dance from the show and then fielded questions from our students about their career paths and performing choices in the show.

Other highlights of the trip included a tour of Radio City Musical Hall, where students were allowed on the massive stage to meet and have a photo op with a Rockette. Students attended mass on Sunday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and were invited onto the beautiful altar for a photo with Archbishop of New York Timothy Dolan. Students also enjoyed a walking tour of Central Park in 62-degree weather!

The final night of the trip culminated with a performance in the lobby of the Empire State Building. Students performed for passers-by and some dedicated family members as they headed up to the 86th floor to experience beautiful city views.

Most importantly, students made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime while having an amazing cultural and educational experience!
