Individual medals were won by Yujin Sung '23 - 1st in Biology and 3rd in Chemistry; Andrew Wierzchon '23 - 3rd in Physics and Darren Pinto '25 - 1st in Computer Science. In addition, Ashley Ribordy '24 qualified for the state competition on her own.
"We are thrilled to have won a place in the state competition," said ACES moderator Suzanne Huntemann. "This is only the third time Carmel has gone to state. Our division is highly competitive but this year we have our strongest varsity team yet (14 students), with nine incredibly strong team members in the wings waiting for next year."
The Academic Challenge in Engineering and Science team participates in a series of competitive exams covering various topics ranging from biology to English. Competition occurs in three stages: Regional, Sectional, and State. Advancement is dependent both on team and individual superior levels of academic excellence in their respective subjects.
