NCEA Art Competition “My Chicago”

Unze’s piece depicts a night scene of the city’s skyline over an ice skating rink with a close-up view of an ice skate in one corner. The perspective of the composition is from a low angle close to the ice, allowing the artist to engage her viewers. Unze worked with watercolor to achieve the varying range of colors and values, which helped to evoke an overall sense of peace and pride.

Aside from making it to the top 50 pieces selected for display, Unze’s painting was viewed by thousands of attendees from across the country. The artwork was on display from April 23rd to April 25, and, prior to the event, additional judging occurred in which Unze received special recognition in her category.
