Dance Outreach Program for Catholic Grade Schools Stresses Health and Wellness

The idea was to use the one thing they loved more than anything else—their passion for dance—to help younger-aged children experience a break from their own stress and anxieties brought on by Covid.

April 12 and 13, for the first time since the beginning of Covid, Carmel Catholic dancers visited four different Catholic grade and middle schools, taking their health and wellness program on the road.

Twenty-Eight Carmel students, both male and female, divided into two groups over the course of two days and led middle schoolers through a series of basic dance movements. The goal, explains senior Maddie Zatella, who started the program as a sophomore, is to give these students a little break during the school day to have some fun and celebrate her and her fellow classmates’ love of dance.

The schools visited include Saint Gilberts School in Grayslake, Prince of Peace School in Lake Villa, Our Lady of Humility School in Beach Park and St. Patrick School in Wadsworth.
