Congratulations to freshman Avery Saura, who will compete at the IHSA Girls Tennis State Finals starting October 22. After playing on the No. 1 singles court for the varsity squad this season, Saura (St. Joseph Catholic School) qualified for her first state tournament by taking second place at the Class 1A Antioch Sectional. Saura picked up wins against singles players from Antioch, Grayslake North, and Lake Forest high schools before falling to the state's top-ranked contender from Woodlands Academy in the Championship match.
This morning, October 22, the No. 9-seeded Saura opens play in the Class 1A State Finals, initially at Elk Grove High School. She will look to improve upon her season singles record of 24-4 when she steps onto the court.
