Celebrating St. Teresa of Avila & Musical Ministry

Carmel Catholic High School gathered for an All-School Mass celebrating the Feast Day of St. Teresa of Ávila, a foundational figure in the Carmelite tradition and the first woman to be named a Doctor of the Church. Her legacy remains deeply connected to the heritage and spiritual foundation of Carmel Catholic.

The community was blessed to welcome back Fr. Conrad Espino from nearby St. Joseph Parish as the Mass celebrant. During his homily, Fr. Conrad reflected on St. Teresa’s spiritual journey through the Gospel’s message of “pruning.” Although she became a Carmelite sister at age 20, her deeper conversion came later in life as she stepped beyond her comfort zone and embraced the transformative power of a relationship with Christ. Her journey ultimately led her to become one of the most influential saints in the Church.

The celebration was made even more memorable by a special musical experience for Carmel Catholic’s Liturgical Choir. Students had the opportunity to work with nationally recognized composer and recording artist John Angotti during a workshop and Mass. Through his music and shared prayer, students deepened their understanding of music as a form of liturgical ministry.

Carmel Catholic extends its sincere gratitude to Fr. Conrad Espino, John Angotti, and Dion Clay for helping make this meaningful celebration of faith, music, and Carmelite tradition possible.
