Liturgy and Prayer

As a Catholic, Carmelite and BVM school, prayer is infused into every aspect of Carmel Catholic life. Each day, each class period and each activity begins with prayer. While prayer is intentionally built into the structure of our days we find that it becomes an authentic part of our students' lives and experiences. Students are known to regularly initiate and lead prayer inside and outside of Carmel Catholic.

Carmel Catholic celebrates the Eucharist during Mass at least once each month as a community in the Salvi Arena, and offers three before- and after-school Masses in the St. Brandsma Chapel weekly. The leadership in organizing and carrying out the various ministerial roles such as lectors, cantors, choir, altar servers and Eucharistic Ministers rests with students.

Throughout the school year, there are opportunities to participate in diverse types of prayer both as a community and through the Religious Studies classes. Stations of the Cross, Taize prayer, The Divine Office, Tuesday morning Rosary, athletic team prayer services and other student-led services contribute to the rich spiritual landscape at Carmel Catholic.

All-School Masses

Before and After-School Masses
Masses are available for students, faculty/staff, and parents on Mondays and Fridays during the school year at 7:15 am and Wednesdays at 3:20 pm in the St. Brandsma Chapel, lasting around 25 minutes. The Masses on Monday and Friday are celebrated by Fr. John Kartje, Rector and President of Mundelein Seminary. Our School Chaplin, Fr. Christian, celebrates the Wednesday Mass.
