Goal 1: Review and enhance academic curriculum, course offerings and flexibility to assure CCHS curriculum remains relevant, effective and leading.

  • To generate life-long learners and faith-filled graduates rooted in justice and community awareness, celebrating diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Align with Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Objectives
    • Consider offering versatile enrichment/interest course formats including micro classes.
    • Explore dual-department credit classes to further team approach to teaching.
    • Expand dual-credit classes to drive increased value in CCHS offerings.
    • Explore expansion of Honors-level curricula in all departments.
    • Consider independent study, portfolio development, and senior year capstone projects as options for credit.
    • Regularly monitor and review college requirements, employer needs, and best practices at the high school level, to assure CCHS maintains its competitive edge.
    • Expand professional development opportunities for faculty and staff (both directed and individualized) that support this goal.

Goal 2: Assure curriculum content enhances proficiency in reading, writing, critical thinking, speaking, and emotional intelligence.

  • To support the development of students with a clear “voice” and understanding of the boundaries of wise and faith-based choices.
  • Align with Catholic Identity and Student Life
  • Objectives
    • Review curriculum to assure a focus based on critical and reflective thinking with an emphasis on reading, writing, critical thinking, analysis skills, and proficient speaking capabilities.
    • Assure that the student’s “voice” is grounded solidly in the tenets of faith by acknowledging that decisions must be rooted in values.
    • Expand proficiency and data literacy in both communications and analysis.
    • Explore the concept of integrating community-based service learning into the curriculum.
    • Create professional development opportunities for faculty and staff (both directed and individualized) that support this goal.
 
Goal 3: Develop individualized pathways for students engaging in an environment mindful of the appropriate developmental demands and challenges facing students.
  • To maximize students’ potential to achieve personally focused goals.

  • Objectives
    • Create the structure of and methodology for academic learning plans specific to each student that maximize his/her potential for learning.
    • Review, define, and divide student support counseling services by function: Academic Coach, College/Career Counseling, and Social/emotional counseling, etc.
    • Rebrand, assign, and communicate roles.
    • Consider the establishment of the “Academic Coach” role.
    • Explore scheduling system/platform improvements to allow for prioritization and timely completion of student schedules.
    • Create seminar programming focused on relevant topics to address specific needs for each grade.
    • Build a work-integrated learning program to build pre-professional skills and create exposure to career pathways.
    • Create professional development opportunities for faculty and staff (both directed and individualized) that support this goal.

Goal 4: Proactively increase the support oriented toward the mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual health of our students and faculty.

  • To support the holistic development of the Carmel community.
  • Align with Student Life and Catholic Identity
  • Objectives
    • Assure the CCHS atmosphere, schedule, and class offerings promote healthy behaviors, mindful of stress and anxiety levels of the students.
    • Update curricula and programming to highlight student health and wellness and assure offerings are current and interesting.
    • Review class options & curriculum annually for relevance and balance of skill, fitness, endurance, and strength components.
    • Review and revise current nutrition curriculum to reflect current research on healthful choices and habits. Engage a nutritionist to instruct/counsel.
    • Review and strengthen the process to address students’ emotional and mental health needs on a daily and emergent basis.
    • Expand offerings to promote faith as an essential part of the Carmel community, our everyday lives, and as a source of strength in challenging times.
    • Create professional development opportunities for faculty and staff (both directed and individualized) that support this goal.
