Fine Arts Department Makes a Difference for Chemotherapy Patients

March 15 was delivery day for Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Breast Cancer Center. The Carmel Catholic High School Fine Arts Department generously donated funds raised from the Christmas concert to purchase many of the comfort items and bags for this wonderful community service project. Over 280 breast cancer patients will receive a Chemo Care Bag in the coming year because of the kindness shown. The CCHS Choir Board did a great job at getting these bags filled in record time. This year’s project was a combined effort of area schools: Carmel Catholic High School, Libertyville High School, St. Joseph Catholic School Libertyville, Lake County Tech Campus, and many in the community who care. When a breast cancer patient meets with a nurse navigator to discuss the chemotherapy treatment plan, she is presented with one of these bags. The nurse navigator reviews how these comfort items may help with the chemotherapy side effects and highlights the community support that is out there.
