Annual Fund

Programs supported by the 2009-2010 Annual Fund

Philosophically, the Carmel Catholic Board of Directors does not charge “full tuition” because of our desire to attract a diverse student body by making tuition more affordable so more families can attend without financial assistance.  As a result, there is a $1,000,000 gap between tuition paid and the income needed to operate the school. In addition, Carmel Catholic High School charges one of the lowest tuition rates in the Chicago area.

To help make up for the funds not collected through tuition, the Annual Fund is a fundamental yearly campaign that supports many of Carmel Catholic High School’s programs and our day-to-day operations.  Each year, the Annual Fund Appeal has a direct and positive impact on every Carmel student. Here is a list of campus improvements and academic programs that have a direct impact on our student’s experience at Carmel.

  • Installation of 30 new computers for student lab
Carmel continually seeks to improve technology equipment and the availability of computers to the students.  A new computer lab was built in the former monastery to accommodate the continuing need for computer use by our students.
  • Purchased instructional software
Keeping software for the classrooms up to date
  • Faculty Enhancement – hired nationally known speakers for seminars to help the faculty maximize student learning.
Students receive a better educational experience when faculty members collaborate in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) to improve professional knowledge and teaching techniques.  Nationally recognized expert speakers challenge, direct and create goals so that the PLT interaction maximizes the faculty's collaborative efforts.
  • School nurse received certification enabling her to educate faculty and staff in CPR procedures.
Carmel constantly seeks opportunities to maintain a healthy, safe environment for students, faculty and staff.
  • UBD Continued curriculum review and renewal
Carmel constantly reviews its curriculum to ensure our students are receiving the best possible instruction and are well prepared for college.  The evaluation addresses goals such as developing the student’s critical thinking skills, Catholic identity, technology use, how the class material relates to the real world, and integration with the student’s other courses at Carmel Catholic and other criteria as determined by the administration and the department chair.
  • Tuition assistance
This year, 198 Carmel students are receiving financial assistance at an expense of $608,421. In addition, 4 students receive tuition assistance (because of the death of a parent) through Carmel Catholic’s Tuition Assurance Program at a cost of $33,440. This $641,861 in financial assistance comes from the yearly operating budget.
