Enhancing Teaching and Learning Through Technology

In an effort to provide Carmel Catholic students with the computer technology they need to keep up with their coursework demands, the school has made a solid commitment to investing in the latest technology. In fact, enhancing technology throughout the school is a key component of the school’s 2007-2012 Strategic Plan.

Specifically, Carmel Catholic High School plans to:

• Provide appropriate faculty training and support in instructional delivery utilizing technology.
• Upgrade the technology infrastructure including plans for a wireless campus.
• Encourage a collaborative learning community including the establishment of a multi-media lab and implementation of applications which utilize virtual technology.
• Develop a technology-integrated curriculum.

Technology Services Available

• The school is equipped with three computer labs with a total of 90 IBM compatible Pentium computers equipped with specialized curriculum software for student use before and after school as well as during the school day.
• The school has building-wide Internet access providing teachers and students with entry to the world’s great libraries, art galleries, museums, universities and the most up-to-date research materials to help further their education.
• Carmel’s library houses multimedia computers, on-line databases, on-line catalog circulation, Internet access, and a CD-Rom network. Multimedia software also is available to help students conduct research and complete assignments in all subject areas.
• Each classroom is fully equipped with a multimedia Pentium PC attached to a 36" TV/monitor, projector, or plasma TV and a VCR/DVD player. Wireless mobile laptop carts with printers and internet access are available for teachers and students to use in the classroom. Digital video and still cameras are used to create movies and pictures for class projects. These tools help to facilitate teaching and learning—both teachers and students benefit.
• Edline—a secure and user-friendly website that provides parents and students timely and direct access to current grades, homework assignments, class progress, and general school news. Edline enhances communication and efficiency among teachers, students and parents. It has proven to be an invaluable tool to those who take advantage of its features.
