Accounting is the language of business.   This class will prepare students who are thinking of pursuing a business career in college.  This course will provide complete coverage of the three types of business--proprietorship, partnership, and corporation.  Each type of business is presented in a complete accounting cycle covering analyzing transactions, journalizing, posting, petty cash, financial statements, and adjusting and closing entries.  Accounting concepts are developed as students learn and understand the terminology used in accounting and business.  Students will be using Automated Accounting and Excel software in this class.

ACCOUNTING II #722

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of 86%  in Accounting I #721 and signature of Accounting teacher.

This course provides an in-depth study of accounting methods for a sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation.  The accounting methods of budgeting, managerial decision-making, and formal financial statement analysis are introduced to the students.  In addition, students are required to complete a computerized simulation set using Automated Accounting and Excel software.

INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS #725

LEVEL: 9-10
CREDIT: .5 ONE SEMESTER

Prerequisites: NONE

This introductory level business course is specifically for freshmen and sophomore students and aims at exploring fundamental business concepts.  Topics discussed include accounting, economics, marketing, finance, management, entrepreneurship, and the impact of globalization. Students will encounter a scenario-based class that has an emphasis on solving real-world problems that are encountered in the fast paced world of business.

BUSINESS LAW #731

LEVEL: 11-12
CREDIT: .5 ONE SEMESTER

This course will be offered every other year.  This course will NOT be available 2011-12 but will be offered 2012-2013.                                               
Prerequisites: NONE

This course is a behavior science that integrates two comprehensive and important fields of study, Business and Law.  Junior and Senior students are introduced to the nature of law and the evolutionary path that today's law has taken.  The use of contracts in business is analyzed, as well as how contracts are used to protect American businesses and citizens.  There is a strong emphasis on business ethics and cyberlaw using a case study format.

FINANCE #734

This higher level finance course is geared toward juniors and seniors as the course will discuss and analyze money management relationships in personal, business and economic environments.  Students will gain the knowledge to make wise economic decisions that will benefit both their personal and professional life.  Major area of study include, personal budgeting, banking, the use of credit, renting and buying homes, consumer awareness, business ownership, financing businesses and financial accounting.

MARKETING #736

This course provides an excellent insight into the world of marketing.  Areas of study will focus on topics such as promotion, pricing, purchasing, visual merchandising, market research and product planning.  The course will also gear the research into international marketing, web marketing and the ethics surrounding this field of study.

The aim of the course is to get a taste of the exciting world of marketing and investigate how goods and services are developed and promoted in the marketplace.  Students will work on project based tasks with many being real life situations, and allowing the students to bring out the creative flair in this dynamic, challenging and essential area of the business world.

WEB DESIGN #753

LEVEL: 9-10-11-12

Prerequisites: NONE             

This course will introduce the student to the design concepts and the various languages and tools used for web page construction and design.  In this project based course, students will use design techniques, artwork, photos, roll-over images, animations, background images, sounds and video to create dynamic and interactive web sites.  Students will learn HTML (the universal language of the Web) and advanced CSS formatting techniques using Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Flash.  The students will also render pictures for use on their pages using Adobe Photoshop.  Students will be exposed to the use of digital cameras, scanners, animation software and sound files to enhance their sites.

MICROSOFT APPLICATIONS #754

Students acquire extensive skills and knowledge in the Microsoft Office Suite with the use of Word, Excel, and Power Point.  Students will also be exposed to the basic concepts of Publisher.  The basics of Windows Operating Systems are discussed with emphasis placed on file management and vocabulary.  Students develop Internet searching skills with an emphasis on Internet safety, ethics, and cyber bullying. Students will investigate current media technologies.

ADOBE IN DESIGN CS3 #756

LEVEL: 9-10-11-12
CREDIT: .5 ONE SEMESTER
LAB FEE: $45.00

Prerequisites:  NONE

Adobe InDesign CS3 is desktop publishing software.  Students learn the Adobe Design Premium CS3 software program and will also learn basics of Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS3 as it relates to print production.  Throughout the course, students will create print media such as newsletters, posters, brochures, programs and other print media.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP #757

This course provides an excellent background for junior and senior students planning to pursue a Business major in college.  It is the study of the structures and practices of business organizations operating under our free enterprise economy.  Topics include international business, entrepreneurship, total quality management, organizational teamwork, human resources, leadership styles, labor-management negotiations and multicultural diversity.  Students will examine the environment of small business ownership, the procedures and skills necessary to manage and open a small business, and the policies and practices of a successful business operation.  Students will use computer applications and the Internet to explore business trends in management.

This course for junior and senior students encompasses the interconnectedness of the world’s global economies and their relationship to the U.S.  This course dissects the U.S. Government’s policies in context with its international trading partners and provides insight into how this delicate balance is maintained and managed. 

This course includes strong links to history, geography, politics and policies, cultures, natural resources, labor forces, management, marketing, finance, business math, business law, entrepreneurship and management courses and combines them into one cohesive course.  International business is one of the most pertinent topics affecting the global economy we live in and is one of the most prevalent topics currently taught in college and university business schools.
